Good morning Lovelies,
I am really excited for today's post! As you can see its not my normal day I usually post, but that's because today's a special post. I have been in awe reading Megan's blog over at The Homes I Have Made a wonderful Home décor, DIY (She's the Queen), budget & rental friendly organizational blog.
Today is a blog hop day! I am teaming up with a fellow blogger & friend to bring you all a special something.
We are both talking about home office & styling projects today as well as giving you a little something to help you stay organized. So be sure after you finish this post here, you jump on over to see what Megan has done because she may just have something for you too.
Here's a little preview of the printable you will receive from me! Something to help you keep all your home projects organized. That way you have a game plan of what you need and how you want to tackle each one & when.
Today I am showing you a little office makeover & a preview mini DIY project.
I wrote this post about An Organized Desk a few weeks ago and low and behold I changed it again. My original desk was on it's last days, we've been in the space for about 4.5 years now and it has taken a bit of a beating. It's pretty close to our bedroom door and it usually got bumped....a lot.
I started searching on craigslist, and kijiji (which are GREAT sources if you looking for cheaper options). I came across this beautiful white desk. IN LOVE, sold. Now all I needed to do was get my better half on board, I did my research and made sure it was worth it.
This was a spur of the moment thing as I got my fiancé on board, I went to pick it up. Can I just tell you I got it for $100...yep THANK YOU to the lady who sold it to me. I found out as I was picking it up, that it was a Crate & Barrel desk (#winning).
It was a bit smaller then my original desk (bonus), and the best part wait for it...the drawer has cubbies already built in(YESS organizing.heart.happy). Now all I am missing is a new chair (search is on) & a filing cabinet. Our original chair was just a tad bit too high.
I simply ADORE this desk, I look at it and smile every.time. It now fits my style & home perfectly, I couldn't be happier.
Although this area is "not complete" as there are still a few things we need, it's on the right track.
I may have also completed a project that's been on my to-do list for a while. See what happens when your being productive ;).
See that bulletin board? Well it got a mini makeover, and I promise a post on that will be up soon. (Hint: it involves Washi tape). Its turned out so well and now I am able to finally use these cute gold tacks, file clips & paper clips that I bought a while ago on sale from chapters!
I was having a bit of a hard time stylizing my new desk. Now that I have this desk, all I want to do is show it off. So I did some searching on Pinterest and figured out a game plan.
Here's the final product;
Pretty awesome right?!
I seemed to gravitate to the bright and colorful accessories. Feminine and fresh office spaces and clean & simple designs. So I tried to achieve that with mine. This corner in the house doesn't receive a lot of light so I wanted to keep it as light & bright as possible.
I kept one magazine holder for my décor magazines & books and used the other in my pantry for cookbooks (a pantry post coming soon too, I know, I'm mean with all this suspense).
I used these ADORABLE blue & beige L & B letters that I received from a close friend for Christmas. I used this little yellow vase (stolen from my parents) with some fake white daisies in it. My pink Fuji quick print camera and a little mason jar filled with a Tropical Pink plant.
No post is complete without a little before & after action;
Quite the difference eh? I simply love it.
As I saw in most of the photos on Pinterest here is a list of accessories you could try, if you need to brighten up your office/desk space;
- Fresh Blooms or succulents
- Chic or Bright accessories; organizers, memo board, magazine holders, bulletin board
- Colorful vases
- Gold & Clear desk organizers
- Personable items (pictures, collectables, letters etc.)
- Pictures & Picture frames
- Memo boards
Also here are some things to help keep yourself organized;
- Pencil/Pen Holder
- Book/Magazine Holder
- Desk/Supply Organizer
- Clear trays (can use for desk drawers)
- Filing cabinet & hanging folders
- Bulletin Board
Lastly here are some tips I found that helped me stay organized & sane, when I first started my office re-do.
- Start from the bottom, and move up; Start with the drawers take care of filing and paper work and then move up. Get the large jobs done first and then finish with the small faster projects.
- Create piles; create keep piles, throw away piles, "no place yet" piles & don't know piles. It will keep you from mixing up papers or throwing away something you didn't want to. Then you are able to double check while you put everything back.
- Keep a garbage bag & shredder handy; if you have any garbage or any confidential files you need to shred you can do so easily and all in one shot.
- Go slow; be patient it's not a race and if you takes you a few days that's ok. This is something you don't want to rush because theres nothing worse then throwing something out or loosing something important.
- You can add to it as you go; it doesn't have to be perfect right off the bat. Just remember you can add & change as you go. You want to make sure you have all your "perfect pieces" so you love it that much more when its done.
Now here is what you all have been waiting for. It's printable time! If you need help staying organized, or need a place to write down all your projects whether it be home or personal, this may just help you.
